Short bio

Dr. Preeti is a trained field ecologist and the Founder of Saryan Vigyan Foundation. She has a B.S. & M.S. in Biology from IISER Trivandrum and a Ph.D. in plant ecology from IISER Bhopal. She pursues fundamental scientific research to enable sustainable living in Himachal Pradesh. She also works to preserve and spread the Kinnauri culture through her collaboration with Zed.tells.

Academic bio

Dr. Preeti is a trained field ecologist and the Founder of Saryan Vigyan Foundation. During her undergraduate and graduate studies at IISER Trivandrum and IISER Bhopal, she pursued field work in Tamil Nadu (KMTR Tiger reserve), Kerala (Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary), Maharashtra (Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary), Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland. She now applies her extensive field research experience to pursue fundamental scientific research in ecology and conservation in Himachal Pradesh (Kinnaur district). Through Saryan Vigyan Foundation, she also works to make science accessible to students in Government Schools in Kinnaur district, and works with the local district administration to adopt sustainable practices. Dr. Preeti has published 6 research articles in reputable international journals, has presented at international conferences like the Botany Conference, USA, International Botanical Gardens Conference in Singapore.

Professional bio

Dr. Preeti is a scientist first and a founder second. She founded the Saryan Vigyan Foundation to translate scientific research into systematic change in Kinnaur and Himachal Pradesh in general. She is also a Chief Scientist at the Deep Tech Innovation Centre, Graphic Era University and the Head of Science at SoftCircuits Labs. She co-invented the FloPump, a low-cost portable pump for sampling air, was part of the winning team for the Jal Shakti Hackathon 2025, was an early adoptor of Machine Learning algorithms in Ecology & Evolution research, and has spoken at technology conferences like IndiaFOSS.
